Reversible and irreversible changes. Post written by Max.

Today in science we have been learning about reversible and irreversible changes.we decided that ice would be a reversible change and chocolate would also be a reversible change if they were melted because they would both turn back into a solid if they were cooled. we also made rice crispie cakes and thought about how the particles changed at each stage. There were 3 main stages :

1) Breaking the chocolate when the chocolate started of f as a solid with lots of pieces of chocolate attached.

2) melting the chocolate

3)  cooling the chocolate. We found that when solids are heated the particles get more energy and vibrate and move more. This lesson was fun! What did you learn?

if you baked a cake it would irreversible beacuase if you putted egg and flavour it wouldt change back to be raw again. Once it is cooked it can’t change back.

if you bake a cake you cant get the ingredients back out so it is an irreversible change.

If you melt a chocolate and then turn it back to solid it is a reversible change.

I learnt a lot today about reversible and irriversable. For exapmle a loaf of bread is irriversble because you can not get your ingrediants back the same with a cake.
Also a rock and a chocolate are reversible.

Can you describe how you think the particles might be arranged at different stages of the rice crispy cake making?

Wow! I am so impressed with your blog Max. It seems as if you are doing a lot of fantastic work in your class. I think we should steal your chocolate science experiment idea to do in year six.
