Earthquake and tsunami hit Japan
A massive earthquake has hit the north east of Japan causing a powerful tsunami.

A huge 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan in Tokyo at 05.46 am this morning.

The huge earthquake shook Japan, unleashing a powerful tsunami that sent ships crashing into the shore and carried cars through the streets of coastal towns.

Officials says that the waves from the tsunami were a high as 10m (33ft).

The earthquake has destroyed Tokyo’s Disneyland car park and caused severe fires in the surrounding area, including one at an oil refinery.

It is feared that many people could be injured, and at least forty people have been confirmed dead.

There have been aftershocks shaking the area since the quake hit this morning, including one tremour in particular that was felt in Beijing: almost 1,500 miles away from the epicentre.

The rest of Japan, the Philippines, Hawaii, Central and South America, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific coast of Russia are all on high alert as they could also be hit by tsunamis.

The UK has now cancelled all planes to Tokyo.

This is thought to be the biggest earthquake to hit Japan.

An earthquake is a sudden trimoror movement of the earth’s crust, wich originates naturally at or below the surface. The word NATURAL is important here, since it excludes shock waves caused by French nuclear tests, man made explosion and landslides caused by building work.
There are two main causes of earthquakes.
Firstly, they can be linked to explosive Volcanic eruption;they are infact very cammon in areas of Volcanic activity where they either proceed or accompany eruptions.
Secondly, they can be triggered by Tectonic activity associated with plate margins and faults. The majority of earthquakes world wide are of this type.
    ok i think that’s enough.

Dear me I’d hate to be in Japan right now, I’ve watched the news and found out that the earthquake was underneath the ocean so there were humungous waves clashing over many cities and towns. Its also saying that this has been the Japans worst crisis since ww2. At least 1300 people have died in this tsnami and it is absulutly awful so 70 countries have offered upport ton Japans.
