Year 4 Trip To The Zoo!!

In year 4 we went on a trip to Dudley zoo! It was lots of fun because we had an ice cream at the end and we all saw lots of different animals, and some animals we hadn’t seen before. We saw monkeys, chimpanzee, lots of types of birds, a crocodile, and lots of reptiles such as snakes, turtles and spiders (tarantulas). We also saw otters and meerkats as well as camels, giraffes, bears and baboons. My favourite animal was the lions.

    africans animals
The Africander were brought to present-day South Africa by the Khoi-Khoi people
during the first century A.D. Their breeding area is throughout South Africa, the main ones being Northeast Cape, Orange Free State, Transvaal and West Natal. The Hottentots owned sanga type cattle, in huge herds, when Dutch established the Cape Colony in 1652. The oxen drew the wagons, which carried Boer farmers and families on the Great Trek of 1835-1836 from the Cape of Good Hope to the Orange Free State, Natal and the Transvaal to escape British rule. The breed was developed from Hottentot cattle in Cape Province and has now become South Africa’s most popular indigenous breed (Maule 1990). It has been exported to several countries in southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Southern parts of D.R. Congo, Australia and USA (Rege and Tawah 1999).

    africans food

The “Afrikaner kitchen” to a large extend stems from the original Dutch cuisine in the Cape, with contributions from the French and German immigrant communities and a large dose of Cape Malay cooking, tempered by decades of “trekking” (moving).

In those days the ox-wagon was the only means of transport. There was no space to take along provisions on long journeys. Flour, salt, sugar, coffee and tea made up most of the basics. Meat had to be hunted along the way.

Afrikaans is a Low Franconian West Germanic language descended from Dutch and spoken mainly in South Africa and Namibia. There are also speakers of Afrikaans in Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Canada, Germany, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the UK, the USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe. About 10 million people speak Afrikaans as a first or second language, and several million other have a basic knowledge of the language.:):)
