Adaptation documentaries

This is our first attempt to use our newly acquired filming and editing skills on our own.

For some reason the videos are slightly too large when embedded in the blog so the right hand side is chopped off. If you click the title of the video (on top left hand corner of screen) you can view it at the vimeo site you can see it in full size.

What do you think?

A fun morning filming by Mya

Today we have been very busy in class. After numeracy we had to be independent learners and enquirers. Some of us were making powerpoints to show what he have learned in science about adaptation. Others were filming their habitats documentaries.  But it was definitely worth it because we have learned loads and we will share the documentaries on the blog when they are edited.

Most of us were filming with Miss Martindale in front of the green screen that Dom taught us how to use during the film project. Now we have learned so much that we can use the green screen on our own! It was great fun to help Miss set up the lights and the screen. Once our documentaries are done they will guaranteed be fascinating enough that they will be on the blog! You will be blown away by them and if you are please comment on the blog to let us know, that will really make our day!

An extraordinary day of filming! By Bismah and Mya

Today we have turned our classroom and the art room into a film studio! Some children started the day by getting into costume and filming the scenes that need the green screen. Others have been getting on with fascinating activities that link to our films such as analysing the data from our film surveys and designing the posters that will advertise our films. .After lunch we all came together as a class and we filmed some of the scenes for our films that don’t need the green screen.

It was peculiar filming today because we found that when you make a film you do not have to film the scenes in order! Some of the films recorded their ending first and jumped around all over the place! When we edit the films we will put them back in to the correct order and add the special effects.

We also discovered what the term ‘corpsing’ means! Some actors and acteresses couldn’t stop laughing!.

Below you can see some photos from throughout the day. Can you spot the camera when filming is taking place? At the moment you can see the green screen but when we edit you won’t.

We also learned about camera movements. We now know different types of movement that the camera operator can use. For example, you can pan left or right, or tilt up or down. We will make a video and upload it to the blog to teach you all about camera movements soon.

Throughout the day we have had brilliant fun but we had to be extremely patient whilst waiting for our scenes. We didn’t realise that extras had to be so quiet and mime so much of their action!

Film progress by Darshana and Maveish

Yesterday we did some work on pre-production. We have now completed casting (so we know who will act in the play and what parts they will play) and also crewing (we needed to decide who would be the camera operator, producer and director for each of the different films).

This afternoon we have also been very busy! We need to try and finish pre-production by Friday so that we can begin production on Monday. This is a strict deadline that we must meet.

Some children have been making props for the films. Other children have been making film surveys using survey monkey. Also some children have been doing the important job of finding images to use on the green screen. It was tricky but fun to find the correct photos!

Making films by Sana and Zara

In year 4 we have been learning about film making. As you will have read on the blog we have set up a film production company.
There are 3 stages to making a film. Pre-production, production and post-production.
we are on pre-productoin stage now. We are making storyboards for our films and writing playscripts. Also we have made film reviews for films to help us spot what are good features to include. In pre-production we are also going to be making the props and costumes. We will also need to cast the actors for the films and choose the settings.

After all of this hard work is done we can enter production. Here we will film the movies using camera and a green screen. We have already learned how the green screen works.

Finally we will enter pst-production where we will edit the films and share them with everybody.

We can’t wait until the films are ready but we know there is still a lot of work to do before then!
